VisMail is not a traditional email system.

VisMail is a CORRECTIONS GRADE email system.

Designed specifically with user efficiency and facility security in mind, VisMail helps detect potential criminal activity by scanning VisMail emails for key blacklisted terms. In addition to flagging suspect emails, VisMail allows correctional facilities to generate revenue while reducing the time that officers spend organizing, reviewing, delivering, and managing traditional inmate mail.

VisMail is offered two ways:

e2Print – Inmate Kiosk Not Required

Designed for correctional facilities that do not have or want inmate kiosks, e2print allows jails and prisons to utilize VisMail’s automated scanning engine to screen all incoming emails. Once reviewed and approved by the correctional facility’s staff, the emails can be printed and hand delivered to the inmate. e2Print flags emails for easy review and streamlines the review process while generating revenues at the same time!

eXpress – Inmate Kiosks Required

Developed for correctional facilities that want or have the infrastructure to allow inmates to read and send emails using a kiosk. eXpress allows jails and prisons to utilize VisMail’s powerful scanning engine to screen and flag potentially suspicious emails while generating revenue for both incoming and outgoing emails.

Both e2print and eXpress automate the screening process through one easy to use interface – increasing detection while reducing costs for the facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1. How does the public, inmates, and officers access the VisMail system?

The public is able to access the VisMail public interface through a simple link on the facility’s website. They are able to register, read, send, buy and transfer stamps from an intuitive user interface. When a new email is received, individuals are sent an automated notification to their registered email address and are prompted to log into the system to read and reply. Visitors are only able to view and send emails to inmates through a secured public interface, not through their existing email system, like Google or Yahoo!. This allows the facility to better control correspondences and keep the system secure.

For the inmate, VisMail can be accessed from any locked down computer with a browser. With that said, many facilities want a more secured platform. For those facilities, Renovo’s Corrections Partners offer secured email kiosks. For more information about our partners, click here.

However, kiosks are not required to implement VisMail. If the inmates do not have access to a kiosk, officers are able to print out emails once they are approved. The email can then be hand delivered to the inmate. This will still allow the facility to generate revenue, have an audit trail, and give investigators easy access to emails while saving money by streamlining the review process.

Officers and investigators are able to access the secured system through their facility’s intranet. Only those correctional officers with the proper privileges are able to access the system to review pending and rejected emails, view sent emails for a particular inmate and/or visitor, and manage approved visitor lists and no contact orders.

Question 2. Does VisMail flag misspellings, drug related words, and other “crime” related terms?

Yes. VisMail comes with a powerful spellcheck and banned words scanning and screening engine that help facilities set thresholds for rejection and officer review. Facilities have complete control over their dictionary and banned words list, ensuring that local drug and gang terms can be added and screened for.

Questions 3. Are correctional facilities able to set up the system to manage quotas, non-contact orders, and special events (such as dorm shut downs)?

Yes. VisMail comes equipped with a powerful set of configurations that ensures facilities are able to set up their secured inmate email system environment to their liking. Moreover, facilities can set up quotas and kiosk timers to ensure against potential inmate conflicts.

Questions 4. Can the inmate email kiosks be used for other things besides VisMail?

Absolutely! While inmate kiosks are not mandatory to deploy VisMail, there are some advantages. Unlike other inmate email systems, Renovo’s VisMail system can be completely integrated with Renovo’s Video Visitation System. What that means for the facility is that they can manage almost all visitor and inmate communication (email and video visitation) with one system. Restrictions, approved visitor list, approved email lists, and all email and visitation correspondence that normally would be managed by multiple systems are easily managed through one piece of software. Investigators and corrections officers can easily look up an inmate and/or visitor and search for video visitation recordings and emails.

Question 5: How much does a typical VisMail system costs?

The best thing about VisMail is that it is FREE for correctional facilities! Working with our partners, correctional facilities receive all the equipment needed and commissions are negotiated between the facility and the system integrator.
