The 16 year old video visitation system at the St Lucie County Jail was already slated for replacement when a power surge in July knocked it out. Installation of the replacement system, developed by Renovo Software, was expedited; and a simplified, smaller scale version of the system was quickly up and running. On Saturday the full scale solution will go into full operation.
Visitors can now go online to register and schedule visits with inmates. The new video visitation system no longer limits inmates to five visitors, and accommodates up to 50 visitors at a time--the old system could only handle 26. If a visit is cancelled for any reason, the visitor is notified by phone and email.
The system will also be installed at the courthouse, and attorneys will have the option to use it to communicate with clients.
