Davidson County, NC Will Allow Inmates to Visit Over Internet

Davidson County Detention Center in Lexington, North Carolina will be among the first jails in the state to allow attorneys, family, friends, and loved ones to visit with inmates via the internet. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office has been working with Renovo Software to set up and train staff on the system.

The internet video visitation system allows personal and professional visitors to see inmates and speak with them without the need to travel. On-site visitation requires more staff time and coordination, and is only available two days a week. Internet video visitation, on the other hand, saves detention center staff time and money by reducing visitor traffic in the facility. Davidson County plans to allow internet video visitation for eight hours seven days a week.

Furthermore, internet visits increase safety for inmates, visitors, and staff by reducing contraband. Renovo's internet video visitation system was installed at no cost to the County, and will bring in revenue for the Sheriff's Office.
